THE RAMSØYA BEAT
This beat is a classical and historical flyfishing stretch of 2.1km of private waters. It contains
different streams and holding pools and has a great flow for flyfishing. The Ramsøya beat
with its diversity was build back in 1901 by Ethelbert Lort Phillips. The same man leased the
river from 1899, built the Todalshytta lodge, and spent every summer in Toåa with his family
and friend for many years. He and his wife was Flyfishers, and Ethelbert himself made the
biggest catch in Toåa up to this date “Ramsøya pool” in the year of 1923. The fish was 46.9
lb.

Though to this day, every year we hook several big fish in the same beat, but very often the fish wins, as of here with Michael Beck Hansen from 2020. Michael is just here explaining how the fish took him 800 meters downstream, and he was not able to keep up. Eventually he lost the fish after about 15 min, just a few seconds before we arrived. As a skilled fly fishermen he saw the fish very clearly after the take. He saw the size of the “the monster” as he called it, way above 30lb.
I must say after fishing this beat for many years, it always give me the “tickle” when I walk down to these great pools, the stretch is very “fishy” and it’s a must try! (Arve Evensen) Todalshytta Lodge has several weeks on this beautiful stretch of Toåa and as a guest on the Lodge you can have access to this beat. Please have a look the map for the different pools in this beautiful beat. |
